Quinoa Porridge Recipe

When I went looking for quinoa breakfast recipes, every one had berries, apples, almonds, and other ingredients in the recipes. It seems no one eats a simple bowl of cereal anymore.

This is just a basic porridge recipe to prepare quinoa the way my parents used to make oatmeal, cream of wheat, and other hot breakfast cereals. You can add to it whatever you have on hand, or just enjoy it plain if you like.

Quinoa Porridge

1 cup quinoa
2 cup milk
1 tsp cinnamon
3 tsp sugar
1 tbsp butter

Heat to boil, simmer 15 mins.

When serving, sprinkle with brown sugar or drizzle a liquid sweetener on top if desired.

The sugar and butter are optional, you can omit or substitute other sweeteners or fats, even non-dairy milks. Don't like cinnamon? Omit it as well.

Of course, you can add fruit or nuts to this, but it isn't necessary. Sometimes it's nice to have a bowl of plain cereal separate from a piece of fruit or glass of juice.

Any leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and served cold or warm, with or without milk.
